Parish Council elections 6 may 2021

Nominations have now opened for prospective Councillors to register their application for Holt Parish Council. The current edition of Holt Magazine provides details of Council Structure and Duties. This is an opportunity to influence how the local precept is used to improve conditions in the village for residents. Recent examples are providing financial support to the Luncheon Club, The Youth Club, and contributing to the costs of improving the junction at the Tollgate. Also liaising with Wiltshire Council to improve the pavements through re surfacing and we must mention plans for trees following the removal of those on Ham Green.

If you meet the following eligibility criteria then you can apply:

Section 79(1) of the Local Government Act 1972 (“the 1972 Act”) provides, unless disqualified a person is qualified to be elected and to be a councillor if they are a qualifying Commonwealth citizen or an EU citizen and on the day on which they are nominated and, if there is a poll, the day of the election they are 18 years of age or over and:

 a) on that day they are and thereafter continues to be a local government elector for the area of the authority; or

 b) they are during the whole of the 12 months preceding that day occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in that area; or

 c) their principal or only place of work during that 12 months has been in that area; or

d) they have during the whole of those 12 months resided in that area; or

e) in the case of a member of a parish or community council have during the whole of those 12 months resided either in the parish or community or within three miles of it.
