Metro Counts in Holt

Villagers may have noticed that there are 5 metrocount systems that have been positioned at various points along the B3107 in the village. These were requested by the Parish Council to assess the average speed which can inform future potential traffic calming measures and whether we meet the criteria for community speedwatch or speed indicator devices. The results from the metrocount recently positioned on Melksham Road concluded that neither would be applicable.

Results from the recent MetroCount can be found here

Proposed highway works in Holt

Wiltshire Council contractors will be working in Holt from the 16 March for up to 10 working days.  The footway alongside the Brook opposite the Village Hall will be resurfaced.  This will involve the closure of the west entrance to The Midlands for 2/3 days.  A diversion will be in place using the east entrance.  Access to the Village Hall car park will be permitted.  The footway alongside the Recreation Ground from Ground Corner to opposite the URC entrance will be reconstructed.  This will involve a suspension of parking on that length of the street with 2 way light control.

Roadworks on B3107

Wiltshire Council have issued a notice of their intention to resurface the footway on the B3107 alongside the Recreation Ground and in The Midlands opposite the Village Hall starting on 5 January.  The notice may be viewed here.

PARKING ON PAVEMENTS AND VERGES

May we appeal to drivers to consider pedestrians and buggy users when parking on the roadside.  The incidence of vehicles obstructing pavements is happening more and more often in the Village. Whilst it is appreciated that on road parking is nearly at saturation point and that the roads are narrow in places, it is inconsiderate and unacceptable  to park in such a way that pedestrians and buggy users are forced into the road.

Please think before parking on the pavement!

SPEEDING IN THE MIDLANDS

A resident has expressed concern about the speed at which traffic travels through The Midlands.  Please can we appeal to drivers to exercise care, especially on the two sharp bends at either end of the road where numerous ‘near misses’ have been witnessed.
